The Lighthouse Project

Because everyone deserves to be heard.

The Lighthouse Project is the name of our pilot program to build better communication at Langford.

We want to make sure participants, families, support workers and support networks are all on the same page. We also don’t want to add work to people who are already busy supporting participants so we’re adding resources to our team.

What is the Lighthouse Project?

One really important thing we learned in our most recent survey was that sometimes communication threads get lost – emails or phone calls aren’t followed up as much as we’d like, especially if they are not urgent. At Langford, we believe all communication matters, and we want to make sure everyone is heard.

Here’s how it will work:

1. New Team Members, and a new role.

We’re recruiting some new team members to our management team, and we’re also introducing Support Worker Champions as a new role at Langford.

Their job is to be a guide (or a lighthouse!) for everyone in the team, especially our Support Workers, who will have direct access to them!

They’ll make communication between our teams more of a conversation, not just a one way street.

It’s written in the Support Worker Champion job description that their role is to be a positive advocate for change and improvement.

2. We’ll be checking in more often.

The Lighthouse Project is a 6 month pilot program – and if it’s working well, we’d like to build on it and that’s why your feedback is so important.

As part of Lighthouse Project, we’re also working on some new feedback tools – we’ll be asking for everyone’s feedback more regularly. We want to find out what’s working, and what’s not – more often than before.

We don’t want that to feel like a chore or extra work, so we’ve picked some exciting incentive gifts for each time we get in touch
to ask how we’re doing.

3. Celebrating the wins, big and small.

We want to celebrate more of the little things, as well as the big important stuff.

When a participant achieves a well-being goal (provided they have given consent), we want to make sure that message gets shared, and their individual achievement is celebrated.

Sharing those stories not only builds pride and a sense of accomplishment, it lights up and shines the way for others.

In summary:

  • We’re trialling providing extra assistance to our Support Workers in a pilot program called The Lighthouse Project.
  • A key new role is our Support Worker Champions, to support our Support Workers.
  • Additional Leadership Positions will be added.
  • You can expect better and more proactive communication, so enquiries don’t get lost.
  • We are also adding resources, so we can get responses back to you much more quickly. We heard that feedback loud and clear!
  • Because we’re adding in extra resources (not extra work), our amazing Support Workers will have more time to support participants, especially in achieving their well-being goals.
